Alberta’s government is investing an additional $3.5 million towards the New Beginnings Bursary to support 700 more low-income learners.
In June, Alberta’s government invested $15 million over three years to create the New Beginnings Bursary to support 1,000 low-income Albertans attending high-demand, qualified post-secondary programs with a $5,000 non-repayable support each year.
The program quickly capped out for the 2022-23 academic year, which left about 700 additional eligible applicants without a bursary. The additional funding of $3.5 million closes that gap and provides funding to all eligible applicants as of November 2022.
